14 new guests arrive at Wat Sri Boen Ruang.

18 Jan

Today we have had 14 new arrivals here at Wat Sri Boen Ruang to take part in our International Buddhism Center’s Thai temple stay program.
We have 10 students and 3 teachers from the USA, who will be spending a couple of days with us, getting an introduction to Buddhism, and learning a little bit about how to,and, why, we practice vipassana meditation.
Mac from Singapore has also joined us today and will be here for about 10 days.
I would like to welcome them all here to our temple, on behalf of Bhante Dr. Apisit, the monks, novices and lay devotees of Wat Sri Boen Ruang.

IT is so exciting to see the wonderful and liberating teachings of the Buddha spreading and changing lives, especially to Westerners where life seems to be growing more and more materialistic and meaningless and where theistic religion seems to be less acceptable to a more educated, scientific and enquiring society. Having been raised ORTHODOX and spent most of my life with “fundamentalists”, I can personally testify to the liberating wisdom and truth of the ´Four Noble Truths`and the joyful, peace giving and compassion building ´Eightfold path` as taught by and practiced by our Lord Buddha and his Sangha! May ALL of our American brothers and sisters see the wisdom and peace and freedom in these teachings as they spend these few days at Wat Sri Boen Ruang. Metta. Aren

My son is among the students visiting. Thank you for your warmth and welcoming our kids. What an amazing adventure they are on and I am so excited they were able to learn and experience Buddhism. The pindabaat seems like a cathartic experience. Thank you.

It has been our pleasure to welcome the students here.
This is a first for us and we would gladly repeat the experience. As my Abbot, Bhante Dr. Apisit told them last night, they are all welcome back here at anytime.

  1. Thailand Update #4 « Director’s Blog - January 20, 2012

[...] We arrived at Wat Sri Boen Ruang and were invited to attend a round of alms (their word is ‘pindabaat’) with the monks there.  This meant going with three monks and two novices as they made their early morning walk through the streets of Fang.  Giving alms is an opportunity for the Thai people to give the monks food and other gifts, which brings them great good merit and karma.  In return the monks give a chant to honor their good deeds and the food for the day. Many Thais, if not able to give, would honk their horns while driving, or bow as they made there way to work or school, as a sign of respect.  It seemed everyone smiled at the monks as we passed by.  One of the monks informed us that many of the locals were impressed when foreigners visit the temple and follow along on alms in their attempt to learn about Buddhism.  [...]
